Data & Security

A plain-language summary of how we look after your child's information.

Last updated: draft version

Draft — not legal advice. This is placeholder wording for review. Final copy must be checked by a qualified lawyer before launch, especially for children's privacy requirements under South Africa's POPIA.

Our commitments

  • We never sell student or parent data.
  • We never use student data for advertising or ad targeting.
  • We don't show third-party ads to children in the app.
  • Parents can request a copy of, or the deletion of, their child's data at any time.

How data is protected

Draft description of the intended controls, to be confirmed before launch:

  • Traffic between your device and EduCare travels over encrypted HTTPS connections.
  • Data is stored with a reputable hosting provider, and access is restricted to staff who need it to run the service.
  • Each account can only reach its own records — a parent sees their own child's progress and nothing else.
  • Payment card details are handled by our payment provider and are not stored by EduCare.
  • Backups are taken so data can be restored if something goes wrong.

What the AI helper sees

When your child asks a homework question, the question text along with the subject and grade is sent to our AI provider to generate a guiding reply. We do not send your child's surname, email address, or billing information with it. Draft position: prompts are not used to train third-party models.

Privacy between parent and child

The parent progress view shows outcomes only — questions asked, correct rate, time spent and topic-level progress. It does not show chat transcripts, so your child can ask for help freely.

Reporting a problem

If you think there is a security issue, please tell us at support@educareapp.co.za so we can investigate. Please don't post details publicly before we've had a chance to fix it.

Full detail on data collection and retention is in the Privacy Policy.
